Goose Necked is a duo formed by Sadie Swenson and Caley Buck. Since graduating from The School of The Art Institute of Chicago, they have spent their time researching geology. Together they have amassed a huge collection of the rocks, architectural fragments, and industry waste (such as coal and slag) that can be found on the shores of Lakes Michigan and Superior. Using Sadie’s interest in the experimentation of clay compostitions and glaze chemistry, and Caley’s interest in painting and the pareidolic images found in rocks, the two combine their skills to create ceramic vessels and paintings that depict their ongoing research. Both are based in Chicago.

“The path of the rock is very interesting to us. Over thousands of years and thousands of miles, the rock traveled along since expired glaciers, mountains and river streams until it landed in front of us. Ours being perhaps the first eyes to have ever witnessed that particular stone. We see rocks as residue signals of geologic time (largely unfathomable) that give scale to our comparatively brief biological lifetime.”
